Our History

Tim Whiting started out in 1998 running a cabinet making business in the grounds of Friston windmill in Suffolk, where in 2005 he met the late Vincent Pargeter who was one of the last of the old school traditional millwrights in the UK. Tim spent 5 years working alongside Vincent working on many aspects of the craft and opened Suffolk millwright in 2011 and has proudly worked almost entirely on windmills ever since.

Suffolk Millwright has been privileged to work on some beautiful mills across the UK and has completely restored:

For the National Trust - Horsey Windpump.

For the Norfolk Windmill Trust -  Billingford Windmill

For English Heritage - Saxtead Green Post mill

For Kent County Council - Chillenden Post mill and Killicks Mill, Meopham

We have ongoing projects from as high up as new sails for Skidby mill in Yorkshire, and as far down as the new cap and sails for Guernseys St Savior mill in Perelle Bay.

In all, we are involved with over 40 UK mills from consultancy advise to regular maintenance works

Testimonials

Luke Bonwick

UK Millwrighting Consultant & Historic Building Surveyor

I have worked with Tim and the Suffolk Millwright team on a series of mill repair and conservation projects over the last decade. The firm sets the standard for millwrighting work in the UK, leading the field in terms of the quality and longevity of the repair work it delivers. Tim’s collaborative approach and eye for detail have made working on these projects a pleasure rather than a chore. The success of each project speaks for itself. A visit to the post mill at Saxtead Green in Suffolk, the tower mill at Billingford in Norfolk or the smock mill at Meopham Green in Kent showcases the outstanding level of craftsmanship that is consistently delivered by the team at Suffolk Millwright.
